Season series: Justin Faulk's power-play goal with 17 seconds remaining gave the Carolina Hurricanes a 5-4 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday at PNC Arena. Eric Staal, Kris Versteeg and Ron Hainsey each had a goal and an assist for Carolina. Arizona defenseman Stefan Elliott had a goal and an assist.

Hurricanes team scope: Jeff Skinner's third NHL hat trick lifted Carolina to a 5-1 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. Skinner has six goals in his past four games after scoring five in his first 25. "Jeff Skinner was very good here tonight and has been good for quite a while," coach Bill Peters said. "That's a good sign for us. He needs to continue to play the way he is. He's playing very hard right now." Goalie Cam Ward likely will start after Eddie Lack made 31 saves against the Ducks. The Hurricanes have scored five goals in each of their past two games; they opened their four-game road trip with a 6-5 loss to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.

Coyotes team scope: Arizona ended a five-game losing streak with a 2-1 overtime victory against the Minnesota Wild on Friday. Mikkel Boedker scored twice for the Coyotes, including the winner 34 seconds into overtime. He has five goals in the past two games at Gila River Arena, including a hat trick in a 4-3 win against the Ottawa Senators on Nov. 28. "I didn't score in the first nine home games this year, so I'll take a few now," Boedker said. Goalie Mike Smith likely won't be available after he sat out Friday because of a lingering lower-body injury he aggravated in practice this week. The Coyotes recalled Louis Domingue from Springfield of the American Hockey League on Friday to back up Anders Lindback, who made 27 saves. Lindback allowed all five goals in the loss at Carolina on Sunday. "I'd love the chance to go back out again and prove myself against Carolina," he said.
