Sooooo... after seeing his rights traded twice within 48 hours prior to the beginning of this years UFA season, Ehrhoff signed with Buffalo:

10 year deal worth $40.0mm ($4.0mm cap hit). According to capgeek, the deal is structured like this:

2011-12 $9,000,000

2012-13 $9,000,000

2013-14 $4,000,000

2014-15 $4,000,000

2015-16 $4,000,000

2016-17 $4,000,000

2017-18 $3,000,000

2018-19 $1,000,000

2019-20 $1,000,000

2020-21 $1,000,000

10 year deals are always a bit of a gamble but the cap hit is managed well and allows the Sabres to spend some money on other players under the cap. New ownership seems to be committed to winning and the pockets are deep...

In the end we won't know how this works out until much later in this deal but it might be a setup that works for both the player and the club.

Who'd have thunk that Ehrhoff would be signed to a contract with a lower cap hit than Keith Ballard?

There are still some D-men worth considering for the bottom 2:

Hannan--Defensive D-man. Not sure if I'd want him, but I could see us pursuing him
Sopel--decent shot-blocker; we'll need all we can get to help Smith out

ESPN's rumor page has us eyeing Chris Campoli. Not exactly sure why, unless we're planning on moving a Dman as part of a trade for a center.

Which one would be moved?

Aucoin & Morris have NTCs, so I'm guessing they aren't going anywhere
Roszival is a bit pricey and has a limited NTC (he can name 8 teams he wouldn't want to be traded to)
Klesla is okay, but nothing spectacular
Schlemko is a decent #5 or 6 amd is cheap (but wouldn't give a strong Center in return)

That leaves Yandle & OEL. I can't see them moving OEL, but he may be in demand with additional personnel. So, the only move I can think of ('Yotes starter) that would be in-demand and provide a strong return is Yandle :-(

Which leads to the question, what Center would we want to see in a 'Yotes uniform at the cost of Yandle?

Dubinsky & Boyle from the Rangers?
Krejci (or Marchand + prospect after he is re-signed) from the Bruins (you know they'd love to get Yandle there)
Grabovski or Lombardi (plus prospect/pick) from the Leafs
Laich (and Schultz to help with their cap) from the Capitals (we could throw in Schlemko I suppose)
Ruutu or Skinner (as if they'd give him up) from the 'Canes
Malkin or Kennedy (and Letetsu/pick/prospect) from the Penguins

I didn't look at any Western teams, so there may be other options. Of course I hope this will not be the case (Yandle being)

Yandle to the Pen for Malkin would be SWEET. But the Pens don't need a Yande kind of player. They need scoring wingers.

I'd be totally fine with Yandle to the Devils for the rights to Parise and sign him to a long-term contract. BANG - we finally get a forward scoring star.
To the Leafs for Schenn and MacArthur...
To the Jets for Bogosian and their 2012 first rounder.
To the Wings for Filppula and their 2012 first rounder.
To the Kings for the rights to Doughty.
Long Live The Jets

What kind of deal would you give Campoli? What would make it worthwhile? One year $2.2?
