Should GMDM snag Briere?

Postby Robert Earthpig on Sun Jun 23, 2013 2:30 pm

Throwing out the question - should GMDM sign Danny Briere to a two-year deal?

I think he should try to land him - as he'd immediately upgrade our forward talent quotient. Briere on a line with Vrbata and Boedker would be interesting - as well as with Vermette and Doan. Plus he's been on the best playoff scorers in recent memory. Briere could be had for about $4 mill per or perhaps $3 mill for three years.

Yes, didn't like that he got traded back in the day for Chris Gratton.

I wouldn't mind, but I'd rather GMDM find someone a bit younger for a longer term contract. Still, I'm sure our PP could use his assistance, but other than that, I'd say he'd be a 2nd/3rd liner (we would still need a #1 Center or Winger)

For the right term and money - YES!

I'd say no more than two years and no more than $2.5mm/year. With the buyout money in hand Danny doesn't have to search for the mega bucks... PHX would offer him ice time. Lots of it. PP time. I think he'd enjoy himself.

Nah..a year or two ago it would have been awesome, but now I feel he's damaged. Another good hit on his small frame and I think he would be best to retire. Like someone said they need to go younger.

Does Briere even fit in the Coach's system?

What coach's system doesn't benefit from goal scoring?

When the goal scorer is a FORMER goal scorer, aged 36 and 2 seasons removed from his last productive goal scoring season. Also when the former goal scorer is a poor defensive player in a coach's system that requires all forwards to be defensively responsible.

Pass on Danny Briere for anything over the minimum.
