Yeah, I doubt Samuelsson is going anywhere soon

In addition, I doubt they'd add a 3rd $5+million per season D-man (they already have Enstrom and Bogosian who both have NMCs). Sure he would be the offensive kick they need, but that would put their forward lines at a disadvantage.

Thinking of ways we could possibly improve our lineup, I was looking at how well Abdelkader is doing this season for the Wings. Perhaps trading Yandle to them for Abdelkader (perhaps a bit more would need to be included on both sides) would be a decent idea. Abdelkader can play either wing and with a strong centerman (which we still need to add/draft) could do quite well. Yandle adds the offensive D-man (and PP specialist) that they need and they have decent support players (defense-wise) to provide the defense needed.

Thoughts? What other pieces would be needed?

Unfortunately CapGeek is offline (wishing its owner the best of course), so I don't really have the cost/contract info (if anyone knows an okay site to find such info, please let me know--in the mean time NHLPA provides compensation info), but apparently Abdelkader makes 2 mill, so I guess the Red Wings would have to offer more in return (to keep under cap)

My goodness I would hope we got A LOT more for Yandle than a third line grinder. If we sent Yandle to Detroit I would hope we'd get one of either Tatar or Nyquist AND Abdelkader.
I'd be somewhat pleased with Abdelkader, Dylan Larkin and Detroit's first rounder this year, and/or Anthony Mantha.

I think Abdelkader has shown that he is better than a 3rd line grinder. When necessary, he filled in on the top two lines (I believe) for Detroit, so he would most likely easily end up playing on the second with our current roster. I never felt Yandle would be a good straight up trade for him, but add one additional prospect OR pick and I'd be happy. Yandle isn't that special in my mind (for the position he plays) and other managers will not allow themselves to get fleeced (I don't think he's worth a first round pick in addition to a player or two). He only has one more year on his contract (I believe) and he is getting up there to the point that his speed may take a hit after next season (or the following). I also don't think he'd be the ONE piece that a team would need to succeed in the playoffs this season. Sure, he'll help, but probably isn't worth too much in return.
