Just now hearing rumblings that news could be coming out of Philly, and that Phoenix could be very much a part of that...

What a tool this guy is. WHY do I bother going there? Like admitting you enjoy listening to metal ballads. Like a dog to garbage...

Any rate, check out where he has Vrbata listed and look who he has listed above him! Thank God this clown isn't our GM!

100 UFA's Who Can Really Help

As I finalize this summer's Rumor Chart I felt it might be fun to release my rankings and list of the 100 UFAs this summer, and I will say this much: This UFA list is the best we have seen in years...especially when it comes to impact players. Solid character players. Goalies, and the kind of second/third liners who will make a difference.

With this much supply it will be interesting to see what kinds of numbers these players can command, and I expect many of these players will be signing with their current teams prior to July 1 or heading to Russia with the fear they could get shut out.
But for all of us lovers of rumors and discussions of player movement...FUN TIMES!
Note: I have Lidstrom and Selanne listed but I don't really consider them as signing anywhere except Detroit and Anaheim...Especially Lidstrom.

No Eklund involved here - just my wishful thinking:

- If Bryz goes UFA - I'd be happy with Vokoun on a two year deal.

- Let Jovo go UFA and dangle some cash to sign Ehrhoff.

- Bring back Scottie Upshall.

- Sign Brooks Laich to a sensible deal.

Id take Joel Ward over Laich partly because of the money difference and i just like his style of play more.

I like Ward. If Laich is unattainable due to budget constraints, Ward could be a low(er) cost alternative.

I'd prefer Laich for the following reasons:

- he is three years younger than Ward, yet he has more than twice the games in the NHL;

- both are defensively capable, Laich is (slightly) more offensively gifted;

- Laich is great in front of the opposing net - something the Coyotes need to get better at;

- In short, Laich does everything Ward does - a little better.

I'd be good with either guy, though Laich brings a more rounded game (in all disciplines). Both would fit in with this club's style of play. And Laich would boost the offense. Ward had a great playoff but low scoring guys who go bonkers in the playoffs rarely evolve the next season and keep charging forward like men on fire. Ward will slip back to third/fourth line production over the long haul and we don't need more guys like that. We need first and second line guys, and Laich can play on either of the top two lines.

From the great donut hole stabber's latest post...

"On the Coyotes and Rangers...

The Coyotes may take a big contract off the Rangers hands in return for the rights to Jovanovski."

So is he assuming GMDM will deal Jovo to the Rangers for Drury?

Isles and Phoenix...BIG DEAL?

You would be hard pressed to find a team with more abundance in the defensemen prospect category than Phoenix. Beyond Keith Yandle even they are stacked. It is equally impossible to name many teams (save the Oilers) who have better offensive prospects than the Islanders....So today when I heard a rumor about a possible Keith Yandle to NYI trade it was one of those "Well there ya have it" type of moments.

Aww shucks; the rumor you heard was Phoenix signs Yandle to 5 year deal, not phoenix trades Yandle to NYI for unproven forwards :)

The only possible trade I'd be interested in would be Yandle for Taveras .

Now, if we traded Stempniak (or Schlemko & Klesla) to the Isles for Nielsen, I'd take that as well

Or perhaps Moulson for Schlemko & Klesla plus a pick ?

Tavares would be the only guy I'd take straight up for Yandle...otherwiseit would need to be 2-3 of their second tier guys.

Eklund says the Turris sweepstakes are underway, with the Hurricane, Leafs and Canucks interested. :shrugg:
No doubt GMDM is now dangling him.

Staal is a player who would fit the Tippett system, because he is a great two way player with excellent defensive awareness and solid work ethic.

You have to give to get. That's a fact. However, Staal is scheduled to become an UFA next summer. Then he'll be looking for a pay raise or greener pastures. One year of Staal is not worth Yandle, a second, a third, ... unless GMDM is certain that Staal is interested in extending in the desert, I would hope he is not going to overpay.
