Jeff Carter is 5,750,000 - giving Philly 3,054,000 freed up.

They need to do something now because they are 59,000 over the cap with Michael Leighton as their starting goalie...

There's a distance between Turris' cap hit and his actual salary. This team is not worried about the cap hit, because we'll just be over the cap floor. Carter is actually making that much. So we're actually talking about $4 million or so in real dollars. That's a huge difference to the budget. We're still a penny pinching team that is waiting on new ownership. Until that happens, a trade of this calibre is pretty unlikely. Look for us to pick up a center from the bottom of the barrel - Comrie, Belanger, etc - or give Turris the 2nd line role and take on a winger, like Stempniak.

But if we're playing, "What's the value of Jeff Carter?" Shoot, I don't know - Turris, Philly's 2nd in 2011, Jonas Ahnelov and the 22nd overall in 2010 (oh, right, that one got wadded up and thrown into the Salt River!)

All things considered, I wasn't that far off value wise.

It's crazy that they traded Richards too. They got good return on both of those guys, but both of them are signed to term. The rumors about their locker room behavior might have a kernel of truth to them. That and their playoff performance and need for an elite goalie.

Good deals for all clubs involved.
The Flyers get a fresh start. And find room to sign a starting goalie.
The Kings get a world-class penalty killer and a 60 plus point man who will take huge heat off Kopitar.
Rick Nash gets pressure relief with the addition of Carter.
