Check out Wpg media take on Turris

Last night at MTS Centre

1. Manitoba RW Guillaume Desbiens---Scored his 11th and 12th goals of the season.

2. San Antonio C Kyle Turris -- His short-handed tally in the second was a thing of beauty. His shootout goal was, as the kids say, sick.

3. Manitoba RW Dan Sexton -- The fastest-moving player on the ice, creating turnovers and forcing penalties.

THE SKINNY

Marco Rosa, Sexton and Michael Grabner all scored in the shootout to give the Moose their second win in 10 games. Manitoba improved to 7-1 in the shootout in front of a sold-out lower bowl crowd of 8,800.

THE CONFUSION

It looked like Jannik Hansen had scored after taking a turnover and rifling it past Rampage goalie Justin Pogge in the first. The goal light went on, but play continued. About 30 seconds later, Moose forward Nikita Kashirsky scored on a breakaway. Replays showed Hansen's shot went off both posts but never crossed the line.

Canadian media still glowing about Turris' goal against the Moose. It was shown on TSN this morning, just for the sheer beauty of it. Nice. It was a doozy!

I hope Turris is on our team next year. He looks really good. Granted, maybe it's because he is playing against other AHL players, but he is showing some sick hands and he looks faster than before.

Turris needs to be handled properly. He was rushed WAAAAAY too early and he's now finding his game again. Reckon his rise is the reason Porter was jettisoned in the Wolski trade.
Turris has all-world offensive skills and all he has to do is become a solid two-way player to stick in the NHL. He has a decent plus-minus this year, so is obviously more responsible away from the puck and must be a bit stronger, as he must not be giving it away so easily this year as the past couple.
The knock on the kid at the draft was he played in a weaker league than most other draft picks, so was he all that good? He showed he was that good in the World Juniors but the longer grind of playing against bigger, faster and stronger guys took its toll. He's catching up now.
I think he'll add a bit more bulk and strength this summer and be ready to make a hard push for the dogs' line-up next season. The problem with Turris is he needs to play first line minutes, second at the least — and not fourth line minutes as he was before. So another season in San Antonio may be in the cards next year — or he may start there and then come up.
Tough problem for the dogs to have, though.
Think Briere, but BETTER by a couple of strides.
